Estates

Practical tasks following the death of a loved one can be challenging. You’ll need to manage required probate and take on estate administration, all while tackling the loss of someone close to you.

When details are complex and emotions are high, you need to know there’s someone who can manage the legalities on your behalf. At Kirbys Solicitors, we make sure all estate concerns are handled with delicacy and efficiency. Our team use years of estates experience to give you peace of mind that everything will be taken care of for you.

Understanding probate: how do you get started?
Before you begin, you’ll need to establish whether there was a Will in place at the time of death. If so, you’ll need a Grant of Probate. If not, a Grant of Letter of Administration will be required. The latter is more complicated. Yet, without either legal document, you’ll be unable to administer the estate.

It’s natural you’ll want to manage the estate as smoothly as possible. Let us tackle legal probate for you. Our solicitors will help you determine which form you need. Then, we’ll apply for it on your behalf, with the knowledge of how to process it promptly, accurately and fairly.

Estate administration: what do you need to do?
Estates can be complex, particularly if you’re faced with a vast estate and a complicated Will. Yet it’s fallen into your hands at a difficult time and needs to be handled carefully. Estate administration covers every aspect of the deceased’s legal and tax affairs. This includes bank accounts, debts, income and inheritance tax, and trusts.

Our clients often find they’re facing unknown issues and, at times, unearthing problems. At Kirbys Solicitors, our years of administering estates through multiple generations assures you that whatever challenge you face, we have the expertise in-house to tackle it for you.

Next steps: how can we help you?
We understand you’re facing probate and administration queries at a difficult time. At Kirbys Solicitors, we’ll take the pressure away and guide you through the estates process. We’ll apply for probate grants or letters, handle estate administration, and answer challenging questions.

Every situation is different. Costs can depend on the size and complexity of the estate. However, we’ll give you a transparent and fair quote so you can confidently instruct us to manage your estate concerns honestly and openly.

What people say about Kirbys…

I have known and worked with both Kirbys and, more importantly, Roger Dooley for more than 20 years now and could not recommend them highly enough! Dealing with Roger is comparable to having an “In-house Solicitor” as I feel I can discuss all aspects of our business from properties to personalities. Moreover, I feel Roger brings a high degree of commerciality that I don’t find common in all legal advice. He is more than our business’s solicitor, he is part of Our Team! Additionally, Roger is exactly what you want in a solicitor, methodical and extremely detailed, whilst his commerciality and his aforementioned integration with our organisation has resulted in us trusting Roger to make unilateral decisions on our behalf! I also find Roger is acceptable to new ideas and has a hunger to understand more than the top level of instruction. All round, Roger is a great commercial legal asset to any business!
